Innovation Challenges:Innovation challenges connect large organisations (challenge holders) with small and medium-sized businesses (solution developers) to solve priority industry cluster challenges. This approach stimulates creative problem-solving and fosters the development of new ideas, products, or processes. Successful applicants will have the chance to present their solutions to challenge holders and create impactful collaborations and new supply chains.Tees Valley businesses can apply for an initial grant of £1,000 to scope their solution, with the potential of securing a further £10,000 to develop it, through ten innovation challenges.
The South Tees NHS Trust Product Design ChallengeSouth Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is tackling a critical issue in paediatric care: the declining number of plaster technicians who are highly confident in applying paediatric hip spicas. This specialised technique, essential for children undergoing hip reconstruction or managing femoral fractures, requires expert precision to avoid complications. However, due to limited training opportunities and high-pressure environments, many plaster technicians are unable to practise and refine their skills.
In response, the Trust has developed a prototype for a purpose-built mannequin, designed to simulate the hip spica procedure, allowing plaster technicians to independently practise and hone their skills in a controlled setting. The challenge now is to fully develop this mannequin into a functional, scalable, and globally compliant tool for training.
We invite innovators, engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturers to collaborate with us. Help us refine this mannequin to improve Hip Spica Training.
