Date: Wednesday 17.07.24, 1.30pm-3.00pm

Title: Vision and Frailty

Stephanie Cairns, Clinical Lead Gateshead integrated low Vision Clinic, Low Vision Optometrist. Vision and Hearing Support (Gateshead and South Tyneside)

Stephanie has 20 years of clinical experience in varied roles, as an optometrist in the North East. Her wide-ranging clinical experience across Primary and Secondary care, along with her involvement with NENC Local Optical Committee, has allowed her to develop an understanding of the pressures and challenges to change, across the current eye care pathway. Unusually for an Eye Care professional, Stephanie has connectivity with adult social care and the provision of support under the care act 2014 due to working with the integrated Low Vision Service at Vision and Hearing Support. She has worked for the Gateshead Low Vision Clinic for over 14 years, supporting people with visual impairment. and as Clinical Lead for the last 5 helping to navigate the pandemic and changing NHS landscape.

Vision and Hearing Support (Gateshead and South Tyneside) is the leading Sight Loss charity in Gateshead and South Tyneside.  They hold both NHS contracts and social care contracts to provide a unique Low Vision Service integrates the specialisms of Optometry, Rehabilitation and Enablement into one service. This streamlined pathway of care includes individual assessment, support plan and equipment provision for Gateshead residents.
