Title: Managing cancer symptoms with older people living with and without frailty
Speaker:
Dr Dan Jones
GP Eden Unit, Penrith hospital. Academic GP, University of Leeds. Team Doctor, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS FT
Biography: Dan has worked both at Hull York Medical School as an academic clinical fellow, and at University of Leeds as an academic clinical lecturer, where his research focus has been the early diagnosis of cancer and, more latterly the diagnosis of cancer in frail older adults. Dan spent four years on research focussing on the controversies in older frail adults, including the barriers to presentation to primary care, and the difficulties in recognising and investigating cancer symptoms in general practice. Dan also conducted qualitative work with older adults who had undergone cancer investigations and how frailty scores impacted time to diagnosis in a big data set. His clinical work is on a frail elderly ward in a community hospital. In his free time Dan is a keen fell runner and volunteers for Patterdale Fell Rescue Team.
