Health Innovation North East North Cumbria (HI NENC) are running Overprescribing Masterclasses as part of their delivery of the HI NENC Regional Overprescribing Programme.

The Overprescribing Masterclasses aim to help GPs, Pharmacists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) carry out structured medication reviews and stop inappropriate medicines.

The online Teams sessions are open to all staff that work to address overprescribing and problematic polypharmacy.

The local masterclass sessions will be run by a Clinical Pharmacist and accredited Polypharmacy Action Learning Set trainer.

These sessions are clinician facing and are open to colleagues in the North East and North Cumbria area.

Prescribing data packs will be purchased by HI NENC for those registered for these sessions containing Business Services Authority (BSA) Polypharmacy comparators data. Please register using your employer email.

Important to Note:

By registering for this event you consent to being contacted by a member of the HINENC Overprescribing Team to provide you with your data pack to accompany your masterclass session.

Registration will close for this event on Thursday 21st November in order for data packs to be prepared and assembled ready for sharing.

Day One Masterclass

You are invited to register to attend day one of the masterclass which will be run as a half-day virtual session where the attendees can expect to explore all the contributing factors to this issue and experience peer learning around this complex topic.

Date: Monday 25th November 2024

Time: Virtual meeting will open at 1:25pm, the session will start promptly at 1:30pm.

Following the session, delegates will be asked to go undertake a structured medication review with a patient using the shared decision-making techniques covered during the session. If you are not responsible for undertaking medication reviews, we ask that you consider how you can incorporate your learning at into practice as a consequence of attending the session.

Day Two Masterclass

Following attendance at day one of the masterclass, you will be invited to register to attend day 2 of the masterclass which will be held online usually over the lunchtime period.

On day 2 of the masterclass we invite a local Geriatrician to provide additional insight where the attendees might have questions/queries around overprescribing and are a key component in increasing clinician’s confidence to stop medicines safely in older people.
