New Funding to Upscale Healthy Heart Checks

Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria (HI NENC) has successfully secured funding to provide further Healthy Heart Checks for underserved communities.

The funding, provided through the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board’s Healthier & Fairer Programme will enable the delivery of Healthy Heart Checks across the region for the next two years.

This upscales a series of Healthy Heart Checks provided under HI NENC’s Innovation for Healthcare Inequalities Programme (InHIP), which tested over 500 people from Black-African, South Asian and the indigenous underserved communities in Middlesbrough. Over 60% tested had an abnormal result and were referred to their GP for a lipid medication review.

The newly-funded programme will be headed up by Tracy Marshall (Programme Manager for HI NENC), who has produced a blog with Programme Manager Emily Whales, showcasing the value of delivering on-the-spot checks, which can identify potential cardiovascular disease risks and facilitate GP referrals for preventive treatment.
