AHSN NENC supports National Cholesterol Month
This October, the AHSN NENC is supporting the national campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of high cholesterol.
The AHSN Network is working hard to supporting primary care in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease through its national Lipid Management and Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH) programme of work, which is delivered in partnership with the AAC RUP Lipid programme team.
FH is a genetic condition that can lead to dangerously high cholesterol levels. It is passed down through families in the genes. It affects 1 in 250 people in the UK, yet over 90% of cases are still undiagnosed, leaving many people untreated and putting thousands of lives at risk. Untreated, FH can lead to early heart disease, but early diagnosis reduces this risk and can help ensure that people with FH have a normal life expectancy.
Throughout October, the AHSN NENC will be adding its voice to the National Cholesterol Month campaign by sharing examples of our collaborative work and also sharing stories of patients whose lives have been affected by high cholesterol.
