About this series of events

The Digital Cluster North of Tyne programme has launched a series of virtual ‘lunch and learn’ sessions aimed at tech businesses across the North of Tyne addressing subjects that arise in the early stages of running a digital business.

By accessing these workshops you will be able to make more informed decisions on how you prioritise and navigate the various elements of running a start-up and also have an opportunity to learn more about innovation and how our team can support you.


Workshop dates and content are as follows:


Workshop 1 – Making IP work for your Tech Business

Wednesday 8th November, 12:00noon – 1.30pm, Online

A bitesize online workshop full of expert advice and guidance on intellectual property delivered by intellectual property specialists, this workshop will help you ensure that you have the right protection in place for your needs. Keeping your product distinctive is important – protecting it is vital! The workshop will introduce the important considerations for protecting your technology through patenting, copyrighting, registered designs and trademarking.

The webinar will cover:

  • Introduction to Intellectual Property
  • Legal considerations for tech start-ups
  • Licensing and exploitation of IP

Workshop 2 – Funding your Tech Business Pre-Product Launch

Wednesday 22nd November, 12:00noon – 1.30pm , Online

This workshop will help you to understand the fundamental requirements of a tech business looking to access funding. It will also introduce you to Pathways to Funding, a new programme of activity led by Innovation SuperNetwork and funded via the North of Tyne Combined Authority. The programme is designed to make that journey easier for you, to create opportunities that respond to common needs and barriers faced by businesses and ultimately to help you secure the critical finance you need.


Workshop 3 – Improving your Chances when Bidding for Funding or Tenders

Thursday 7th December, 12:00noon – 1.30pm , Online

This workshop is designed to help innovators:

  • Choose which funders best match their needs
  • Put together exactly the information that funders are looking for
  • Write a bid that stands a good chance of being successful. (We can’t guarantee anything, but we can improve your odds!)

Designed for entrepreneurs, start-ups and tech businesses who are ready to, or planning to, apply for funding, for innovations. Examples of funding you’re considering might include Innovate UK, Local Business Support Funds, SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative), NIHR and a wide variety of other funding sources.


Workshop 4 – Cyber Security and Protecting your Tech Business against Financial Crime

Tuesday 16th January, 10:00am – 12:00noon, In Person at TusPark, Newcastle

An interactive workshop session on managing risk (economic threats and cyber security). The everchanging landscape of technology leaves it constantly open to new threats, putting at risk businesses cyber security and in turn their financial security. This session will be offer advice on protecting against these threats and reducing risk to your tech business.

This event is delivered as part of the Digital Cluster North of Tyne programme for digital businesses in Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

The Digital Cluster project is delivered in partnership with Dynamo North East and Health Innovation North East and Cumbria, who are providing specialist support for HealthTech business to access opportunities in the NHS. It is funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority.
