Mental health and the built environment
Rachel works in healthcare innovation leading regional projects in the North East of England. Originally qualified as a clinician with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Rachel has developed more than 12 years’ experience in project management and service improvement roles and has recently completed a degree in urban planning and architecture. Her interests lie in the connections between wellbeing and urban design and how to support the creation of healthy, happy, fun places where people and communities can thrive. Rachel started and leads the Healthy Happy Places programme along with her Planning Co-Lead, Timothy David Crawshaw (Planning & Development Consultant and President of the Royal Town Planning Institute; RTPI). This is a programme looking at how mental health and wellbeing can be supported and created through the built environment in the North East and North Cumbria using collaborations between the NHS, public health, planning and architecture and design.
