Event Details

The Lipid Optimisation Event Series programme of events is aimed at people wanting to increase their knowledge around lipid optimisation and underpinning evidence base.

Each session, which will be around one hour and will be delivered live via the Virtual Medical Educators Facebook page with no requirement to register. However, in advance of the session a Zoom link will also be provided via the Facebook page which enables a more interactive experience with the speakers if you choose.

The events would be suitable for, but not limited to:

  • secondary care practitioners with an interest in lipids,
  • general practitioners,
  • nurse practitioners,
  • primary care network pharmacists
  • medicines optimisation pharmacists
  • community pharmacists.

Lipid Optimisation Event Series

The series has been put together by Hannah Beba, Senior Clinical Pharmacist for Diabetes and Endocrinology at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) and will systematically address some of the key topics in lipid optimisation today and equip people to overcome barriers and arm patients with the information they need to make informed decisions.  Hannah has been involved in lipid clinics at CDDFT for a number of years and is passionate about educating people around this topic.

Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH)

1st July 2021 7pm

Overview

This session will aim to address what familial hypercholesterolaemia is, how is it inherited, the epidemiology of familial hypercholesterolaemia and natural history. It will look at therapies and any special considerations e.g. women of childbearing age and it will explain the role of specialist lipid clinics.

Objectives

  • Look at the mechanism of action of statin therapy
  • Look at clinical efficacy and safety
  • Look at statin intolerance in detail and how to address this systematically
