The AHSN NENC is supporting the delivery of the national trauma informed community of practice with the aim of promoting good evidenced based practice, shared learning and to inform national policy and collaboration.
The community of practice is based around an NHS Futures online platform which includes occasional webinars and events. The platform is a place to discuss ideas and practice, gain consensus on topics, find validated resources, connect with others working on the same issue, engage in research and learn together about what trauma informed good practice looks like.
The Platform was set up in March 2020 and has now over 900 members. Members include a range of organisations, perspectives, and specialities in mental health across England who are leading on trauma informed developments.

Trauma Informed Practice
There is a move in the UK towards making all our services and communities aware of the impact of trauma and adversity and how to offer ways to recover and heal. Trauma informed practice is required by the NHS Long Term plan for mental health resulting in NHSE-investing funding to set up a national community of practice around the development of trauma informed services in England.
Delivery so far
Work on the Trauma informed community of practice to date is included in these presentation slides and also includes:
Core Action Group
A Core Action Group was set up in March 2020 to shape the direction of the community of practice and to support its successful establishment. For further information on this project contact Divya Dinraj.
Open Narrative System
The Open Narrative System (ONS) is an open content management system for multiple categories of content. It was based on an idea by Angela Kennedy and created by a team at Northumbria University: Garry Elvin, Lee Walton and Petia Sice. Its development was funded by the Trauma Informed Community of Action.
Evaluation
An evaluation has been commissioned to establish whether the NHS Futures Platform is of value and meets the needs of members.
